Fossils of the time when life on land was found by a resident of Novosibirsk
Novosibirsk scientists have discovered fossils of the oldest animals in Toguchinsky district of Novosibirsk region. According to experts, their age is about 400 million years, while life appeared on dry land on Earth, not even dinosaurs.
Rich ancient fossils quarry was discovered by accident by an employee of Museum of local Lore of Novosibirsk Andrew Megaco. The scientist was on-site research, and fossilized animal remains were found in a small quarry for the extraction of shale stone. According to the Museum, the finds belong to the time when the planet wasn’t even dinosaurs, and life was just out of the water onto dry land. They have 400 million years.
“We are not so rare where Devonian strata outcrop at the surface, in this respect, the quarry is not unique. But I do, in the Novosibirsk region have not seen before: there is so much variety, perhaps even new species are presented. More precisely, it is difficult to say, we haven’t shown the findings of scientists-paleontologists, said Andrew Megaco. And the quality is outstanding. For example, well-preserved fossilized brachiopod is an animal with a shell, like a clam– right in my hands opened up into two halves. Such a clear imprint that can be seen all the microrelief”.
As explained in the Museum, most of the West Siberia at that time, which include findings, was the bottom of an ancient paleo-Asian ocean. In the Novosibirsk region was then well-warmed shallow waters where comfortable felt sea creatures – brachiopods, bryozoans, corals, sea lilies. The Museum found fossils of these animals.
“The availability of such findings, because the stone with the imprint, can literally lie under your feet, it becomes the cause of mysterious stories about the alien artifacts in the Paleozoic rocks. The fact that some fossils resemble parts of various mechanisms (for example, the stalks of sea lilies are very similar to the old screws with a neatly executed by the thread), but they are located in these ancient layers, where the traces of human presence have not had to be told in the Museum. – Of course, this “strange rusty bolts” often mistakenly credited with an extraterrestrial origin.”
The best of the discoveries of Andrew Megaco can be seen in the near future in the paleontological Museum of nature. Other fossils will be used as demonstration material for lectures, excursions and field trips.
