Archaeologists exploring in the Albazin era from the stone age to the late middle ages

Excavations at Albazin prison is completed archaeological field season – Wednesday, August 11, all major work will be curtailed. Scientists summarize first scientific results. The main discoveries of this year was the discovery of nineteen single burials in coffins and, presumably, new skudelny – mass graves of the defenders of the Albazin prison of the seventeenth century.

19 single burials in coffins, most likely, relate to the beginning of the siege of the Fort, when its defenders still had enough strength to dig individual graves and the house they put together for each of the deceased. Some of these burials was demolished, and the bones of the dead extracted for further study, the other part is preserved to continue in the new season. Several coffins cleared and left untouched for demonstration to participants of the solemn ceremony of reburial of the remains of defenders albazina, which will be held in early September. Archaeological excavations of the ancient settlement of Lucentum (Tossal de Manises)

Those who want to know the origins of the Spanish city of Alicante should also visit one of the sights of Alicante – Lucentum (Lucentum). This archaeological site of an ancient Roman. This place is located on the top of the hill El de Tossal at a height of 38 meters and 3.5 km from the centre of Alicante. The ancient city covers a huge area, component 7. But the excavations produced only on the territory of 2.5 hectares.

In this place approximately in 215 BC, there was a city of ACRA Leuca. And the artifacts that are here today, show that the architecture in those years was exposed to Carthaginian influence. Having existed before the 2nd century BC this city as a result of one of the Punic wars was captured by the Romans led by Publius Cornelia stsipionom. They rebuilt it and named Lucentum, which means in translation “the city of bright lights”. At the turn of the eras, the city reached the peak of its prosperity. But in 2-3 century ad it was abandoned because it could not compete with the nearby city of Ilici, referred to today as Elche. And then it was used as a cemetery for Muslims (5-6 century ad).
