Fossil remains of plants and animals are fantastic evidence of past life on our planet. Mostly, they are found in sedimentary rocks . But how did they get there? Actually, becoming a fossil is very difficult process that requires a rare combination of circumstances:

There are lots of different types of fossil, including parts of skeletons, shells, footprints, moves done loadname worms, the remains of shellfish, etc. Most fossils we find today are the remains of mainly marine life.
